School Announcements

Sr. Baseball Tryout is May 23rd 4-5 at Bauline Pitch.  Open to all 10-12's Boys

 

The PE 2101/3101 field trip to North Atlantic Zipline has been cancelled for tomorrow and will be rescheduled for next week.  Stay tuned for the new date.

 

There will be a cleanup of the Gully and surrounding school area today after school for approximately one hour. Any interested students can see Ms.  Evans in Room 229. 

 

The reserves will be here during lunch. Drop by their information table in the main lobby area. 

 

Students in Applied Music 2206, the guitar class, and senior band are invited to attend a session during period 3 in the music room. This will be a presentation by the Dean of MUN's School of Music. Only students serious about learning more about the School of Music should attend. Those students should check in with their period 3 teacher before heading to the music room.

 

Students who want career hours can meet Mr. Martin this Thursday in his workshop from 2:30-3:30 to help clean up the shop. Please meet Mr. Martin on Thursday.

 

Students who were interested in constructing the remote sensing station to monitor the Gully's health will have another meeting with Mr. Grant in room 222 at Nutrition Break on Wednesday. All students are invited.

 

 

 




 

 

Premier Award

Congratulations to Emily Regular on winning the Premier Award on Tuesday for athletic excellent in Karate. She got to meet our premier, Mr. Ball and received a monetary award as well.  Also, past HTH student Christopher Coady received a premier award. Everyone at Holy Trinity is very proud of both your accomplishments.

 
Parent School Development Survey

The provincial government has launched the annual school development surveys of students, parents/guardians, and staff. The data from these surveys will be used by our school to create our school development plan.

Parents/Guardians are asked to please complete the family survey so we have representation from all of our families.  We encourage everyone to participate so that we have the most accurate representation of family perceptions at your school. Thank you for your participation and for being a valued member of your school community.  A memo and email have been sent out with more information.

Underwater Robotics Competition

Congratulations to the Underwater Robotics Team. They placed second in the product demonstration category and won third place overall. They also won the award for best team spirit.  Katherine Ledwell also won the Steve Brown Memorial Scholarship which is awarded each year to a single student at the competition who demonstrates leadership and passion for the ROV competition. 

                                   
Team members are: Katherine Ledwell, Mackenzie Lomond, Jack Combden, Jasper Ruben, Emma Penton, Conor Kavanagh, Sydney Roche, Garnet Edinger, Ryan Casey.  Way to go Tigers!
 
Regional Heritage Fair

This past weekend Holy Trinity was very well represented at the Regional Heritage Fair in Bay Roberts.  Congratulations to the following students who represented HTH at the Fair: Allison Clarke, Abby Hammond, Jillian Codner, Jack Waterman, Daniel Owens and Rebekah and Andrew Goose. 

Jack Waterman took home the French Second Language award for a project that tells a story for his project on  The Watermans and Fishing in Newfoundland.

Rebekah and Andrew Gosse took home the award for a project that shows visual literacy in their presentation for their project on Lifestyle on Wall's Island, Labrador in the 1950's.

Daniel Owens took home the award for a project that commemorates architectural history for his project The Walsh Stage.

 

Lastly, Jillian Codner won an ambassador award for her project on Private Daniel Francis Connors Royal Newfoundland Regiment.  This is awarded to a student who completes an exceptional individual project commemorating the men and women who served in the First World War. 

Jillian will travel to Europe and  visit Beaumont-Hamel for the annual July 1st ceremony, visit significant European sites where the Royal Newfoundland Regiment fought and spend time in the five communities that are home to the bronze caribou monuments, the official memorial to the Regiment. 

What an accomplishment to all of the students who participated in the regional heritage fair. Congratulations!!

Grade 9 Girls Basketball Champions
Congratulations to our Holy Trinity Grade 8 Girls Basketball Team for bringing home the banner for the Grade 9 School League Tier 1B. Go Tigers!

 
Anxiety Disorders, Youth and Education

A big thank-you goes out to our judges this year as without your help, this event would not be possible. The judges were very impressed with the calibre of the work done by our students and said it was quite a challenge to place winners. Judges were; Vera O'Keefe, Bob Codner, Rebecca Ryan, Craig Scott, Corinna Martin, Jody Wall, Amy Chislett & Rose Davis.

 
Congratulations Sydney

A big congratulations to Sydney Roche on receiving the Warren and Catherine Ball Memorial Entrance Scholarship for Memorial University valued at $30,000.  Congratulations Sydney!

 
School Clodsure - Professional Development Day
School will be closed for students on April 27th due to a teacher professional development day.
 
2018 Public Exam Preperation Course (8 Week Night School)

The Newfoundland and Labrador English School District will be offering a 48 hour Public Exam Preparation Program (Night School) from April 17 to June 7, 2018.  This program will be offered for Math 3201 on Tuesday and Thursday evenings (7:00 pm to 10:00 pm) at Gonzaga High School, Smithville Crescent, St. John’s.

 

Electronic Registration will be open from Tuesday, April 10th, 9:00 am to Friday, April 13th, 4:00 pm.  Participants can register by completing the registration form below and emailing to nicoleconstantine@nlesd.ca


Participants are required to pay $185.00 registration fee per course on either Tuesday April 17th or Thursday April 19th.  To register please complete the attached form or call Nicole Constantine at 758 - 2704

 
English Novels Need to be Returned
This is a reminder to all students that any outstanding English novels need to be returned asap.  Any student who does not return their novels will be charged for the cost to replace it.
 
Pi Recital
Congratulations to Abigail Edwards on winning the Pi Recital in Junior High. Abigail was able to recite 115 digits of Pi. Thanks to all students who participated in this event. Great work students.
 
Arts and Letters Award
Congratulations to Victoria McNiven on her visual arts submission as it was selected for inclusion in the Arts and Letters Exhibition, which will be on display at The Rooms from April 21 to May 13, 2018. Way to go Victoria! 
 
Duke of Edinburgh Awards
Congratulations to Julia Craig, Melissa Moores, Ashley Newman, Emma Penton, Sydney Roche and Jasper Rubin on receiving their Silver phase certificates for the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Program. They received their certificates at an official ceremony this past Sunday (March 18th) at the Memorial School of Music.
 
Principals List Luncheon
The principal's List luncheon will be rescheduled to next week. The junior high luncheon will take place on Tuesday March 27th and the senior high luncheon will take place on Wednesday March 28th.
 
Easter Dinner
Roast Turkey, Savory, Dressing, Mashed Potato, Vegetables, Gravy, Cookie and Milk all for $6.50.  Served in the cafeteria on March 22nd.  You had to pre-order by March 16th.
 
School Closure March 19th
School will be closed for students on March 19th due to a teacher professional development day.

Mini Enrichment Opportunity Grade 9

Are you in Junior High and looking for a challenge or learn a new skill? The Mini Enrichment applications are now available in the office.  The program is designed for students of exceptional abilities and the course content is designed to challenge and intrigue them. The program is established via partnerships with post-secondary institutions and are hosted at different locations between Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN), College of the North Atlantic (CNA), Marine Institute (MI) and District Conference Center (DCC).  The applications are due March 12th.

Cafeteria Services
In the event that there is a two hour delayed opening, cafeteria services will not be available to students as our Chartwell's cafeteria staff will not have adequate time to prepare for lunch. Parents are asked to ensure that if we experience a two hour weather delay that students bring a lunch from home.   We appreciate your support and understanding with this matter.  If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact us.
 
Scent Free Building Reminder
Scented products can be harmful to many people, and can make those who have allergies, migraines, environmental sensitivities and chronic heart and lung diseases very sick. Please refrain from wearing scented products in the school due to allergies which result in breathing difficulty in the presence of strong smelling fragrances. This includes items such as colognes and aftershaves like Axe, scented shampoo and conditioners, hairspray, scented deodorants, perfumes, lotions, creams, etc.

Grade 12 Prom Info
All grade 12 students are asked to complete the following Holy Trinity High Prom 2018 Registration Form and Student Contract google form. Students will need to be logged into their google school account to complete the form. All forms must be completed no later than Dec 1st. If students are unsure of their prom date this form can be edited later to include this information.

Assessment, Evaluation and Reporting

The new Assessment, Evaluation, and Reporting Policy was approved in June 2017 by the board of the NLESD. The policy is effective September 5, 2017. The associated Administrative Regulations are a working draft for the 2017-2018 school year.
